Description: GLC Government Services is seeking a Histologic Technician or Histotechnician or Histotechnologist to provide technical services at the VA in Seattle, WA. Facility: VA Puget and Laboratory Medicine Department: Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLMS) Anatomic Pathology Section and the Dermatology Mohs Microsurgery Laboratory Hours: Full time. Monday – Friday. 7:30am – 4:00pm. Contract: 1 year with 4 option periods (5 years) Requirements: · High School graduate with a minimum of two years science education at the college level. · Completed a certified histology training program · Minimum one-year experience in the histology field in a clinical anatomic pathology laboratory setting · Histology Technician and/or Histology Technologist registered, or eligibility pending within three months of start date. Additional Requirements: · Must be able to perform accessioning, paraffin processing, embedding, routing staining · Must be knowledgeable in special stains such as silver stains, connective tissue, bacteria, carbohydrates, pigments, and minerals. · Familiarity with immunohistochemistry required · Able to perform daily maintenance on a variety of histology instruments including cryostats, processors, embedding units, microtomes, strainers, and cover slippers · Competent to recognize instrument malfunctions and immediately report problems · Proficient in sustaining maintenance records on a daily basis · Capable of reading standard operating procedures and adhering them · Communicate clearly the daily status and problems about the laboratory output to team members, pathologists, and senior management of the service. · Must be computer literate · Maintain and run controls with special procedures to check any discrepancies and take necessary action to correct false positive results · Log all surgical pathology and cytology materials accurately into the computer, set up and monitor quality control, prepare reagents, controls, and standard solutions, verify correct instrument operation and calibrate instrumentation when necessary · Surgical specimens from the previous day are to be finished (embedding through staining) by the following day · Frozen sections are to be finished within 20-40 minutes · Re-cuts and special stains are to be completed by the end of the following work day · Cytology preps are to be done within 24-48 hours of established workdays upon receipt of specimen About GLC Group For candidates seeking the right positions, GLC Group is the recruiting firm that creates value for you by investing the time and resources to truly recognize and discern your capabilities, goals, and career plans at a personal level.
