Dental Assistant, General – Join Our Team and Make a Difference!
Are you a dedicated Certified Dental Assistant ready to bring your skills to a meaningful environment? Our correctional facility is seeking a reliable and talented Dental Assistant to provide essential dental care services within a secure and dynamic setting. This role offers a unique opportunity to work weekdays, Monday through Friday, ensuring a consistent schedule while making a significant impact on inmate health and well-being.
In this vital position, you will assist dental professionals with chairside support, perform sterilization and disinfection procedures, take and develop dental X-rays, and handle clerical tasks such as scheduling and inventory management. You'll demonstrate proficiency in four-handed dentistry, handle minor equipment repairs, and participate in emergency preparedness activities. Your role will also include providing patient education approved by the Chief Dental Officer, all within a well-supported environment where supplies and equipment are provided.
Required Skills:
- Certification as a Dental Assistant, with Expanded Functions certification preferred
- At least six months of experience as a Certified Dental Assistant or relevant education/training
- Knowledge of sterilization, disinfection, and dental radiography (bite wings, periapicals, Panorex)
- Familiarity with dental lab duties and minor equipment repairs
- Ability to perform clerical duties, including appointment scheduling and inventory tracking
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience working in institutional or correctional settings
- Knowledge of dental office software and basic computer skills
- Skills in patient education and emergency equipment operation
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant, with expanded functions certification or minimum six months of relevant experience
Other Requirements:
- Valid CPR (Health Care Provider) certification obtained within three months of hire
- Ability to pass security clearances required for employment within a correctional facility
