Shift Time: 2nd Shift - 1400-2230

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current Pennsylvania License for Practical Nurse, or eligibility to sit for the Practical Nurse Licensure Examination.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to enter health data for residents into electronic medical records database.

Role Description:
  • Provide practical nursing care and treatment for individuals with mental or physical injury/illness, developmental disabilities, or difficulty with daily living activities at a Commonwealth facility.
  • Implement nursing care plans, performing practical nursing duties and patient/resident/inmate care.
  • Prepare, administer, and record medications and treatments prescribed by physicians.
  • Observe and report changes in physical and emotional behavior of patients/residents/inmates.
  • Take and record vital signs, collect specimens, and maintain progress notes and administrative reports.
  • Participate in habilitation and rehabilitation programs established by interdisciplinary treatment teams, including daily living and leisure activities.
  • May hold charge responsibility for a living or patient care area, overseeing unlicensed personnel, maintaining treatment regimens, and requesting professional evaluation/treatment as needed.
  • Perform duties in accordance with laws, rules, regulations, and practical nursing standards.
  • Supervision may be received from a Licensed Practical Nurse Supervisor; licensure-required duties performed under direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician.

Required Competencies (includes but not limited to):
  • Airway insertion, first aid, catheter care/insertion, AED, oxygen administration, IV therapy, heparin lock insertion/irrigation.
  • Medication administration (oral, topical, injectable, suppository), dose calculations, inhalers, vital signs, nursing protocols, ambu bag usage.
  • Audiogram and telebinocular testing, universal/standard precautions, perineal care, documentation of IV therapy and heparin lock care, tubing management, parenteral management, secondary medications.
  • Use of IV infusion pump, manual flow regulator, venipuncture, IM/intradermal/subcutaneous injections.
  • Tuberculin testing, transcription/acceptance of orders, O2 mask/nasal usage, peak flow meter, pulse oximeter, respiratory mask, suctioning, restraints, specimen collection.
  • Ventilator care, o & p collection, urine dipstick, wound culture, ace wrap, anti-embolic hose, arm sling, binders, CPR, evacu chair, isolation, knee immobilizer, K-Pad, braces, traction, hemorrhage control, decubitus care, drains, dressing changes, ear/eye irrigation, eye staining.
  • EKG, enemas, glucometer usage, Hoyer lift technique, jejunostomy tube-enteral nutrition, nasogastric/gastrostomy tube insertion/irrigation/feedings, nebulizer treatment, nephrostomy, neurological checks, ostomy care, suture removal, vaginal douche, sterile technique, wound care, blood pressure monitoring.
  • Must function within standards of nursing practice at all times.
