Join our team as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department (ER) at a leading acute-care hospital in Presque Isle, ME. We are seeking dedicated professionals who are passionate about providing high-quality care to patients of all ages, from neonates to geriatrics. This contract position offers the opportunity to work in a supportive and welcoming community.

General Information:

  • Facility Type: Teaching Facility with 89 licensed beds
  • ED Capacity: 11 beds, including 3 trauma ED beds, 1 behavioral seclusion room, and 2 negative pressure rooms

Patient Types:

  • General ED patients including Trauma, Stroke, STEMI, and Behavioral Health

Patient Ratios:

  • RN - 1:4 (variable upon patient acuity within department)
  • Tech - 1:11

Minimum Experience: 2 years

First-time Travelers: Yes, we welcome first-time travelers!

Required Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • TNCC (preferred)
  • NRP (preferred)

Skills Required:

  • Charge experience (please ask all travelers about this)
  • EKGs, IV starts, familiarity with TNKase administration, nebulizer treatments, initiating Bipap, suture removal, assisting with casting, vent management

Support on the Unit:

  • RT available on dayshift, can be called in for unstable patients
  • ED Provider and Mid-level provider (hours vary)
  • Hospitalist available 24/7
  • House Supervisor and Receptionist on-site 24/7
  • Critical Care transport team assistance in ED
  • ED Techs available

Traditional Nursing Staffing:

  • 2 RNs on 7A-7P, 2 RNs on 7P-7A, 2 RNs on 9A-9P, and 1 RN on 10A-10P
  • ED tech hours: 6A-4P and 6P-4A

Additional Information:

  • Security on site 24/7, typically does not respond to patient escalations; staff from all 6 units will respond if needed
  • Charting System: FirstNet
  • No floating required
  • Orientation: Two days of hospital orientation, including time within the department, plus 1 day with preceptor
  • Weekend rotation: Every other
  • No call required
  • Holiday expectations as needed
  • Approval of time off requires manager approval
  • Scrub color: Any professional color; hospital scrubs available but not required
  • On-site locker/changing room and gym available
  • Free parking available
