Unit Information:
o Beds: 44

o Minimum Years of Experience required: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Medical 18 years old and above - Respiratory illnesses, GI illnesses, Sepsis, CHF, Diabetes, placement issues, Behavioral health, etc.
Patient Ratios:
o RN: 1:4-6, acuity dependent – surge times could increase to 1:7-8
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Skills required:
o Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, wound care, plurex catheter management, positive bedside manner and strong communication skills
Support within the Department:
o CNA trained to do additional skills: foley catheter insertion and removal, PIV removal, oxygen set-up, bolus tube feeds, EKG, bladder scan, finger stick blood sugar, and peripheral blood draws
o Unit Secretary on dayshift only
o Charge nurse out of assignment when staffing allows
o Phlebotomy - CNA completes peripheral sticks, RN does central lines
o IV/VAT Team for difficult sticks and manages central line dressing changes
o RT assigned to unit, 24/7 – RT provides all respiratory treatments
o Hospitalist, 24/7, with cross coverage at night
o Intensivist, 24/7, as needed for consults on the unit
o Telemetry monitoring/tech? Yes, monitored remotely
Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Patient Safety Net (PSN)
o Unit specific equipment: PSN, Hoyer lift, EKG, bladder scanner, vein finder
Floating:
o Within region and scope of practice
Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises
Orientation (facility and unit) :
o NEO
o Facility flash orientation with education team
o 2 days departmental orientation with preceptor
Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: every other
o No call
o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
o RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
o Shift times: 0645-1900 or 1845-0700
o Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
