Join a leading acute-care hospital as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) in Charlotte, NC. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated RN to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about pediatric care and have the skills necessary to thrive in a challenging setting.
Unit Information:
- 24 licensed beds with an average patient census of 21-23.
- Required Experience: Minimum of 2 years of strong high acuity Pediatric ICU experience.
- Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Respiratory issues, trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical cases, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplants (kidney and liver), complex medical conditions, and blood disorders.
- Patient Ratios: Varies on acuity: 2:1, 1:1, 1:2.
Required Licensure & Certifications:
- Active RN license.
- BLS and PALS certifications.
Skills Required:
- Experience with EPIC, Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temperature monitoring), Belmont Rapid Infuser.
- Management of critical care vasoactive drip titration and invasive lines (ART lines/CVP).
- Aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, HOFV management.
- Oral/nasal suctioning, g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation and analgesic drip management, Foley insertion and management.
- Alaris & Medfusion pump management, bedside procedures with providers, discharge skills, and CRRT experience.
- Ability to float to Pediatric CVICU as discussed during the interview.
Support within the Department:
- CNA support with 1 Health Care Tech per day for unit secretary duties and nursing support needs.
- Unit Secretary available every shift.
- Charge nurse present 24/7.
- Phlebotomy and IV/VAT Team available 24/7.
- Resource Nurse and in-house intensivist, residents, and APPs available.
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC.
- IV Pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps.
- Med dispensing: Omnicell.
- Monitors: Phillips.
- Equipment: Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Artic Sun, Camino, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat, and Accuryn.
Orientation: 2 days departmental orientation.
Scheduling: No call for travelers; if the PICU cannot utilize them, they may be floated to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units. RTO requires manager approval. Schedule cycle is every 6 weeks.
