We are seeking a dedicated and experienced RN - MedSurg/Tele to join our team at a leading acute-care hospital in Shelby, NC. This contract position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on patient-centered care.

  • 241 licensed beds
  • Level 3 Trauma Center
  • Certified Chest Pain Center
  • Stroke Center

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 32
  • Average Census: 28
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 18 months Med/Tele RN experience
  • First-time travelers are welcome!

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Total Joint Replacements
  • Colon resection
  • Gallbladder and appendectomy
  • Amputations
  • Medical overflow
  • Hip fractures
  • Small bowel obstruction (SBO)
  • NG tube management

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: Days 1:4-6; Nights 1:5-6
  • LPN (if applicable): Days 1:4-6; Nights 1:5-6
  • CNA: 1:10-11, or 1:16 (depends on staffing)

Required Licensure & Certifications:

  • RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Skills Required:

  • Basic Med/Tele skillset: Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Experience with non-titrating Cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone)
  • Wound care, drain/tube management
  • PIV starts, Central line management

Support within the Department:

  • CNA - Vital signs, baths, mobility, turning, blood sugars
  • Receptionist/HUC: Rounds and secretary duties
  • Charge nurse – Resource to assist with all nursing care
  • Phlebotomy support available
  • IV/VAT Team
  • RT, 24/7
  • Hospitalist, 24/7
  • Intensivist, 24/7
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech available

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips

Floating:

Travelers may be required to float within the region and scope of practice. If floating mid-shift, the traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock).

Orientation:

  • NEO
  • 2 days departmental orientation

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: every other
  • No call
  • Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
  • RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
  • Shift times: 0645-1900, 1845-0700
  • Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
