Unit Information:

  • Beds: 28
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 18 months Med/Tele RN experience
  • First-time travelers: Not preferred but will consider

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Spine surgery
  • Trauma
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Medical Overflow

Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-6; surge times could be 1:7-8

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS (Resource Team Requirement)

Skills Required:

  • General post-surgical skillset including incision care, assessment, drains, chest tubes, wound care/wound vacs, mobility, education, trach care, NG tube insertion, and use of braces/traction.

Support within the Department:

  • CNA support for phlebotomy, ADLs, Foley insertion/removal, peripheral IV site removal
  • Charge nurse indirect as able
  • IV/VAT Team
  • Mentor for additional support and policy information
  • RT available 24/7
  • Hospitalist available 24/7
  • Remote Telemetry monitoring
  • House Supervisor for additional support
  • Patient Safety Attendants/Virtual Patient Observation for additional observation/redirection
  • BERT Behavioral Response Team for de-escalation measures
  • Rapid Response/Code Team for emergencies

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: BD Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips and Massimo

Floating: Travel nurses will be the first to float to other nursing units and provide flexible staffing support based on patient care needs and staffing demands. They will demonstrate adaptability and clinical flexibility when floating to other units. Nurses will take patients within their scope of practice on any unit (e.g., MedSurg assignment in ICU, MedSurg holds in ED, etc.). Floating may be required per regional needs.

Orientation: NEO and 2 days departmental

Scheduling: Weekend rotation every other weekend; travelers will work 75% of holidays; RTO can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays (must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours); schedule cycle is 6 weeks.
