Join our team as a MedSurg/Telemetry RN in Winston-Salem, NC, where you will be part of a leading acute-care hospital. We are dedicated to providing high-quality patient care in a friendly, academic medical center environment.

Unit Information:

  • Unit: 4A
  • Beds: 8
  • Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4, CNA: 1:8
  • Average patients per day: 8

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: General Medical; some Cardiac, Pneumonia, UTI, Chest Pain, fluid overload.

Minimum Experience Required: 1 year of nursing experience; travel experience preferred.

Required Licensure & Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.

Skills Required: PCA, surgical drains, wound care, telemetry - cardiac rhythm interpretation, Cardizem/Amiodarone gtt experience (will accept without but must be comfortable to learn).

Support within the Department:

  • CNA: Supports the RN by obtaining vital signs and blood glucose checks; assists with hourly safety rounds and activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Receptionist/HUC.
  • Charge Nurse: Free floating for the majority; may have a full assignment on occasion.
  • Phlebotomy: Yes, peripheral blood draws.
  • IV/VAT Team: No, we start our own IVs.
  • Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7; will need to page for assistance when needed.
  • Hospitalist: Available 24/7.
  • Intensivist: Available 24/7.
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech: Yes, telemetry monitors on the unit; RNs are responsible for reading/interpreting strips during shift.

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: Epic.
  • IV Pump: Alaris.
  • Medication dispensing: Omnicell.
  • Unit specific equipment: PCAs, trachs, complex wound care.

Floating: May float to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, Throughput Unit.

Orientation: 2 days departmental orientation.
