As a MedSurg/Telemetry RN, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients with various medical conditions.

Facility Overview:

  • 885 licensed beds
  • Level 1 Trauma Designation
  • Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
  • Chest Pain Center
  • Stroke Center

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 26
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years MST
  • First-time travelers accepted: Yes, dependent on experience. Must have strong background in MedSurg.

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • General Medicine - Diabetes Mellitus, Gastrointestinal, Respiratory, Renal, Wounds/Dressing Changes, chest tubes, tracheostomies, lab draws required.

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 5-6:1
  • CNA: 8-9:1

Required Licensure & Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS

Skills Required:

  • Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
  • Experience reading telemetry strips
  • Chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drain & tubes, PCA pumps
  • Gtt management – Amiodarone (occasionally), Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, Heparin

Support within the Department:

  • CNA: Provides basic nursing care to assigned patients and assists RN where needed
  • Receptionist/HUC
  • Charge nurse – occasional in modified assignment
  • Phlebotomy – for routine, RN responsible for STAT draws
  • Rapid Response Team
  • RT 24/7
  • Hospitalist 24/7
  • Intensivist 24/7
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech: Centralized Telemetry, sign strips each shift

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: Epic
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Unit specific equipment: Phillips Vital Sign equipment, lifts

Orientation:

  • NEO
  • 2 days departmental
