Join a leading acute-care hospital as a dedicated RN in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). We are seeking experienced professionals for 26-week contracts, with the possibility of a 48-hour/week guarantee. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and Teaching Hospital in Charlotte, NC.
Unit Information:
- Beds: 24; average patient census of 21-23
- Required Experience: 2 years of strong high acuity Pediatric ICU experience; must thrive in a fast-paced environment
- First-time travelers are welcome
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- Respiratory issues
- Trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma)
- DKA, Seizures, Neurosurgical cases
- Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, Orthopedic, Surgical, Transplants (Kidney and liver)
- Complex Medical cases, Blood Disorders
Patient Ratios:
- RN: Varies on acuity: 2:1, 1:1, 1:2
Required Licensure & Certifications:
- RN: BLS, PALS
Skills Required:
- EPIC experience
- Experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temp monitoring)
- Belmont Rapid Infuser, management of critical care vasoactive drip titration
- Management of invasive lines - ART lines/CVP
- Aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes
- Ventilator and trach management, HOFV management
- Oral/nasal suctioning, g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes
- Epidurals, PCAs, sedation and analgesic drip management
- Foley insertion and management, Alaris & Medfusion pump management
- Bedside procedures with providers, discharge skills, CRRT experience
- Ability/Competency to float to Pediatric CVICU
Support within the Department:
- CNA - 1 Health Care tech per day to support unit secretary duties and nursing needs
- Unit Secretary every shift
- Charge nurse available 24/7
- Phlebotomy, IV/VAT Team available 24/7
- Resource Nurse, RT, Intensivist, and Residents in-house
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps
- Med dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Phillips
- Equipment: Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Artic Sun, Camino, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat and Accuryn
Floating:
- Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, General Peds - will float as needed
Orientation:
- NEO, 2 days departmental
Scheduling:
- No call for travelers; if the PICU cannot utilize them, they may be floated to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units
- RTO: Manager approval
- Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
