Our client is a well-established and rapidly growing commercial real estate investment firm with a strong track record of acquiring, developing, and managing a diverse portfolio of properties across the United States. Known for their entrepreneurial culture, institutional discipline, and commitment to excellence, they are seeking a Controller to join their team and play a key role in managing the firm’s financial operations.

 

Position Overview

The Controller will oversee the accounting and financial reporting functions for the firm’s portfolio of real estate investments and operating entities. This individual will be an individual contributor reporting directly to the partners to ensure accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant reporting. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in audit (public accounting experience preferred), hands-on experience with K-1 preparation and review, and is a licensed CPA.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, and bank reconciliations.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities, including property-level and consolidated reporting.
  • Manage the year-end audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Oversee and review the preparation of investor K-1s in collaboration with third-party tax advisors.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial information.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making by senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes.

 

Qualifications

  • CPA designation required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree a plus.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Public accounting / audit experience .
  • Strong understanding of real estate fund structures and partnership accounting, including K-1s.
  • Prior experience in the commercial real estate industry is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
