Unit Information:

  • Beds: 4
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years ICU RN
  • First-time travelers: Not preferred but accepted with strong experience

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Sepsis
  • ARDS
  • GI Bleeds
  • DKA
  • Cardiac Arrest
  • Withdrawal
  • Renal Failure

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:1-2
  • CNA: most times 1:10

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS

Skills Required:

  • General ICU skillset
  • Critical care gtts experience - insulin, vasopressors, sedation
  • Management of invasive lines (ART/CVP)
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Chest tubes
  • Ventilator management
  • Blood products
  • Wound care/dressing changes

Support within the Department:

  • CNA - Assist with turning, feeding, ADLs, blood sugars, lab draws, mobility
  • No HUC/Receptionist
  • Charge nurse, 24/7
  • Phlebotomy - RN will be responsible; one person available in the hospital
  • IV/VAT Team
  • RT, 24/7
  • Hospitalist, 24/7
  • Intensivist, 9a-11a; VCC Coverage for other hours

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Unit specific equipment: telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, translator on a stick, virtual cart for rounding with MDs, Stroke Cart

Floating:

  • Within region and scope of practice
  • Required to float per region needs
  • Travelers will be paid for the time traveling between facilities

Orientation:

  • NEO
  • 2 days departmental

Scheduling:

  • Standardized for Resource Team
  • Weekend rotation: every other
  • No call
  • Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
  • RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays
  • Shift times: 7a-7p and 7p-7a
  • Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
