Join our team as an RN in the ICU at a leading acute-care hospital in Macon, GA. Unit Information:
- Each ICU unit has 10-20 beds.
- Minimum of 2 years ICU RN experience required.
- First-time travelers are welcome.
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- CCU - Critical Care Unit
- MICU - Medical ICU
- STICU - Surgical Trauma ICU
- NICU - Neuro ICU
- CVICU - Cardiovascular ICU
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit (Step down unit)
Patient Ratios:
- RN: ICU – 1:1-2
- PCU – 1:3-4
- LPN: 1:4-6
- CNA: Most units have 1-2 CNA per shift.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS
- CCRN (preferred)
- Travelers will be required to pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding.
Skills Required:
- Trach care
- Chest tube management
- PIV starts
- Glucometer usage
- Common drips: Insulin, Heparin, narcotic, paralytic, sedation, cardiac, etc.
- Ability to actively titrate vasopressors.
Support within the Department:
- CNA assistance with vitals, blood glucose checks, baths, bed changes, feeding, and patient safety.
- Unit Secretary on unit from 7a-11p; house-wide call secretary from 11p-7a.
- Charge nurse available.
- Phlebotomy primarily done by lab collect; RNs draw from CVLs.
- PICC team available for IV access.
- Resource nurses and discharge nurses support the unit.
- RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist available 24/7.
- Central telemetry unit for monitoring.
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitors: Phillips
- Unit specific equipment: Nova Glucose Stat Strips.
Floating:
- Travelers may be required to float to all Med/Tele units as needed.
Orientation:
- 1 day orientation with educational modules.
- 2 days departmental training.
Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 (on a 6-week schedule).
- No call required.
- Holiday expectations: work one shift of each major holiday.
- Shift times: 12-hour shifts from 7A-7P or 7P-7A.
- Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks.
