Join a leading acute-care hospital as an RN in the MedSurg/Tele unit. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on patient-centered care. Our facility is recognized for its excellence and is a Level 1 Trauma Center, providing comprehensive services in a teaching hospital setting.

Unit Information:

  • 30 beds with a census of 30
  • Minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • First-time travelers are welcome

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Post/Pre cardiac patients and step-down ICU patients
  • Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and SEPSIS

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:4-6
  • CNA: 2-3 per shift

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) required (EKG Rhythm exam as part of onboarding)
  • ACLS - preferred but not required
  • National certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing - preferred but not required

Skills Required:

  • Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander experience, insulin drips, heparin drips
  • Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital
  • IV insertion and care, central line management
  • Wound care and post-op monitoring
  • Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
  • Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
  • Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management

Support within the Department:

  • CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, and hourly rounding
  • Unit secretary available from 7 AM to 11 PM
  • Charge nurse present on each unit
  • Resource nurses available for discharge and support
  • 24/7 RT and Hospitalist services

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Pyxis
  • Monitors: Phillips

Orientation:

  • 1-day orientation with educational modules
  • 2 days departmental training

Scheduling:

  • 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No call required
  • Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday
  • 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM
