Department Information:

  • Beds: 10
  • Average Daily Census: 8 patients

Minimum Experience Required: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience (first-time travelers will be considered but are not preferred).

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Chest Pain, Syncope, Angina.

Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement).

Ratios: RN: 1:5, CNA: 1:10.

Skills Required:

  • General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc.), PCA pumps.
  • Medication gtt management to include: Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF.

Support within the Department:

  • Supervisor
  • Charge RN - may or may not have patients
  • Resource RN - will assist with Admissions/Discharges
  • RT, 24/7 - not dedicated to this unit specifically
  • Hospitalist, 24/7 - not dedicated to this unit specifically
  • Phlebotomy: Combined effort between RNs, IV team
  • IV/VAT Team

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Med Dispensing: Omnicell

Floating: Within region and scope of practice. Travelers may be required to float to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice. If floating mid-shift, the traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock).

Orientation: NEO, 2 days departmental.

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: every other
  • Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
  • RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays - must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
  • Shift times: 0650-1910; 1850-0710
  • Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
