Unit Information: The MedSurg/Telemetry unit, designated as 4A, features 8 licensed beds with an average patient census of 8. The facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center and an Academic Medical Center.

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: You will care for patients with general medical conditions, including cardiac issues, pneumonia, UTIs, chest pain, and fluid overload. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4, with a CNA support ratio of 1:8.

Required Licensure & Certifications: Candidates must possess a valid BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification. A minimum of 1 year of experience is required, and while first-time travelers are not preferred, travel experience is a plus.

Skills Required: Proficiency in PCA, surgical drains, wound care, telemetry (cardiac rhythm interpretation), and experience with Cardizem/Amiodarone gtt is essential. Candidates without this experience must be willing to learn.

Support within the Department: The team includes CNAs who assist with vital signs and blood glucose checks, a receptionist/HUC, and a charge nurse who may float or take a full assignment. Phlebotomy services are available, and RNs will initiate their own IVs.

Technology/Equipment: The unit utilizes Epic for EMR, Alaris for IV pumps, and Omnicell for medication dispensing. Telemetry monitors are available in the unit, and RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac strips during their shift.

Orientation: New hires will undergo a 2-day departmental orientation to familiarize themselves with the facility and unit protocols.
