Join a leading acute-care hospital in Charlotte, NC, as an RN specializing in MedSurg/Telemetry. This facility is a Level I Trauma and Teaching Hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. As part of a supportive team, you'll provide exceptional care to patients while benefiting from a collaborative environment.
Unit Information: The ADTU and Satellite unit consists of 5 med-surg and med-tele units, focusing on decompressing the ED and other specialty areas within the hospital. The unit has a total of 19 beds in the ADTU and 34 beds across the Satellite Units.
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: You'll work with adults and geriatrics, managing conditions such as COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, falls with injuries, MVC with injuries, pulmonary embolism, DVT, UTI, pneumothorax, GI bleeds, and CVA.
Patient Ratios:
- RN: 6CD - 1:5-6, acuity dependent (surge staffing could increase ratios up to 1:7-8)
- 3K - 1:4
- 5A - 1:4
- 3L - 1:4
- 1T: 1:4
- LPN (if applicable): All units - 1:4
- CNA: 6CD - 1:6, 3K - 1:8, 5A - 1:6, 3L - 1:7, 1T: 1:7
Required Licenses and Certifications: Candidates must possess BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications. A minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience is required, and while first-time travelers are not preferred, they will be considered.
Skills Required:
- General Med/Tele skillset including stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management.
- Medication gtt management including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF.
Support within the Department:
- CNA: Responsible for vitals, blood sugars, hygiene care, and assisting with patient needs.
- Secretary: Assists with unit operations, including answering calls and managing supplies.
- Charge Nurse: Available to assist with all units.
- Phlebotomy and IV/VAT Team: Available 24/7.
- Hospitalist and Intensivist: Available 24/7 for patient care.
Technology/Equipment: The facility uses Epic for EMR, Alaris for IV pumps, and Omnicell for medication dispensing.
Floating: Nurses may be required to float within the region and scope of practice, with travel time compensated while on the clock.
Orientation: Includes NEO and 2 days departmental training.
Scheduling: Weekend rotation every other week, no call, and holiday expectations include working 75% of holidays. Up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays.
