Join a leading acute-care hospital as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in High Point, NC. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a community-based hospital known for its commitment to quality care and education.

About the Facility:

  • Community-based hospital located in an urban area.
  • 304 licensed beds.
  • Teaching status with interns, residents, APPs, and nursing students.
  • Chest Pain Center accredited by the American College of Cardiology.
  • Designated Primary Stroke Center by TJC.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 4 with an average daily census of 4.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience required in Medical Surgical with telemetry experience or progressive care experience.
  • First-time travelers are welcome.

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • General medical patients requiring continuous monitoring of cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and neurologic status.
  • Patients with NSTEMI, status post STEMI, cardiac interventional procedures, electrophysiology procedures, heart failure, and post-stroke care.
  • General, vascular, or immediate thoracic surgical patients requiring continuous support.
  • Patients with respiratory failure requiring medium or high flow oxygen devices or NIPPV.

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:3 or 1:4 depending on interventions.
  • CNA support available; ratio varies.

Required Licensure & Certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications are required.

Skills Required:

  • Cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac strip and rhythm interpretation.
  • Experience with arterial lines, titration of drips, and non-invasive ventilator care (BiPAP/CPAP).
  • Post-procedure site care, including trans radial bands and femoral venous or arterial sheaths.

Support within the Department:

  • CNA support is available.
  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapist on-site.
  • Telemetry monitoring is the responsibility of the RN, with telemetry techs as a resource.

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Baxter
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Philips Intellivue; all rooms equipped with in-room monitors.

Orientation:

  • 36 hours of orientation in the first week, including NTO and online CBL (Healthstream).
  • 12-hour departmental specific orientation shift with an RN preceptor.
