Join a leading acute-care hospital as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Charlotte, NC. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced RNs looking to make a difference in the lives of critically ill children. The unit is currently seeking candidates for 26-week contracts, with potential for guaranteed hours.

About the Facility: This facility is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and a Teaching Hospital with 247 licensed beds. It is also certified as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 24; average patient census of 21-23
  • Required Experience: 2 years of strong high acuity Pediatric ICU experience
  • Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Respiratory, Trauma, DKA, Seizures, Neurosurgical, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, Orthopedic, Surgical, Transplants, complex Medical, Blood Disorders
  • Patient Ratios: RN to patient ratio varies on acuity: 2:1, 1:1, 1:2

Required Licensure & Certifications:

  • RN: BLS, PALS

Skills Required:

  • EPIC experience
  • Experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device, Belmont Rapid Infuser
  • Management of critical care vasoactive drip titration, invasive lines, aseptic and sterile techniques
  • Ventilator and trach management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation and analgesic drip management
  • Foley insertion and management, Alaris & Medfusion pump management
  • Bedside procedures with providers, discharge skills, CRRT experience

Support within the Department:

  • CNA - 1 Health Care tech per day to support unit secretary duties and nursing support needs
  • Unit Secretary every shift
  • Charge nurse, 24/7
  • Phlebotomy, 24/7
  • IV/VAT Team, 24/7
  • Resource Nurse
  • RT, 24/7
  • Intensivist, 24/7
  • Residents, in house
  • APP, in house

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips
  • Equipment: Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Artic Sun, Camino, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat and Accuryn

Orientation: 2 days departmental orientation.

Scheduling: No call for travelers. If the PICU cannot utilize them, they may be floated to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units within the facility. RTO requires manager approval; schedule cycle is every 6 weeks.
