Join a leading acute-care hospital as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Winston-Salem, NC. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a new unit that will initially open as a high acuity PCU and transition to an ICU by the end of 2026. We are seeking dedicated RNs with a passion for patient care and a strong background in critical nursing skills.

Facility Overview:

  • 885 licensed beds
  • Level 1 Trauma Designation
  • Teaching Hospital: Academic Medical Center
  • Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center

Unit Information:

  • New unit opening February 3, 2026
  • Beds: 10-12
  • Minimum of 2 years of ICU or PCU experience required; CVICU preferred
  • First-time travelers are welcome

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Heavy cardiac cases including CHF, cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath, dysrhythmias, and arrhythmias
  • Post-surgical patients including CABG/open hearts, heart transplants, and vascular surgeries

Patient Ratios:

  • Initially 1:3-4, transitioning to 1:2-3 in ICU

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Skills Required:

  • General nursing skills and ICU experience
  • Experience with Swanz and Impella
  • Wound care and dressing changes
  • Defibrillation, EKG interpretation, post-arrest care, and managing drips
  • Experience with LVAD and post-cardiac transplant patients preferred, training available

Support within the Department:

  • 1 CNA and a charge nurse who does not take patients
  • Manager present in the morning, ANM until midnight
  • 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist support
  • Remote Tele Techs available for assistance

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Medication dispensing: Omnicell

Orientation:

  • NEO and 2 shifts of orientation on the hired shift
