Join our team as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a leading acute-care hospital in High Point, NC. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced RNs looking to make a difference in patient care within a supportive and technologically advanced environment.
Unit Information:
- Beds: 18
- Average Daily Census: 18
- Minimum Years of Experience Required: 1 year of Cardiac Tele or PCU experience
- First-time travelers are welcome!
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- General medical patients requiring continuous monitoring of cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and neurologic status, including NSTEMI or status post STEMI, cardiac interventional procedures, electrophysiology procedures, thoracic surgery, heart failure, and post-stroke care.
- General, vascular, or immediate thoracic surgical patients requiring continuous cardiac, respiratory, or hemodynamic support, including pharmacological titration of cardiac anti-arrhythmic drips (e.g., Amiodarone, Cardizem, Cardene, Dobutamine, Tridil).
- Post-operative day 2 patients after open-heart surgery.
- Patients with respiratory failure requiring medium or high flow oxygen devices or NIPPV.
Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:3 or 1:4 depending on interventions.
Required Licensure & Certifications:
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
Skills Required:
- Cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac strip and rhythm interpretation.
- Experience with arterial lines, titration of drips, and non-invasive ventilator care (BiPAP/CPAP).
- Knowledge of vascular lines, chest tubes or drains, and post-procedure site care.
Support within the Department:
- CNA support available.
- Charge nurse present.
- Rapid Response Team and RT available 24/7.
- Continuous cardiac monitoring responsibility for the RN.
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Baxter
- Med dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Philips Intellivue
Orientation:
- 36 hours of orientation in the first week, including NTO and Online CBL (Healthstream).
- 12-hour departmental specific orientation shift with an RN Preceptor.
Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend.
- Holiday expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays.
- Shift times: Nights = 1900-0700.
- Schedule cycle: Every 6 weeks.
