Department Information:

  • Average patients/day: TTE, comprehensive studies: 110 across all areas
  • Stress/Stress Echo/DobSE/NucCard/Tilt: 14/day
  • TEE: 5-6/day

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2 years of RN experience with Cardiac experience
  • First-time travelers are welcome

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Heart Failure and Cardiac Diagnostics
  • Advanced studies: TTE, TEE, Stress Echo, Dobutamine Stress Echo
  • Chemotherapy Evaluations
  • Renal Transplant Evaluations

Required Certifications:

  • RN: BLS; ACLS
  • PALS (preferred)
  • Cardiac Sonographer: BLS; RDCS (ARDMS) OR RCS or ACS (Advanced Cardiac Sonographer through CCI)
  • Exercise Physiologist: BLS; national certification not required
  • Cardiovascular Tech: BLS, ACLS, CCT (Certified Cardiac Tech through CCI) required

Skills Required:

  • TEEs, stress testing, EKG interpretation
  • IV management, cardioversion, mild sedation experience, infusion

Support within the Department:

  • Dedicated Cardiac Ultrasound Educator and Chief Sonographer
  • 19 Echos (including satellites)
  • 5 RNs, 2 Eps

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC - Encompass
  • Department specific Equipment: Philips echo, GE echo, GE CASE: stress lab, Philips ISCV: reporting for ECHO

Orientation:

  • NEO
  • 2 days departmental

Scrub Color:

  • Tops: Barney Purple (not eggplant)
  • Pants/Skirts: Black
  • Warm-up Jackets: either the same purple or black
