Join our team as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a leading acute-care hospital in Cornelius, NC. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a new unit that will open on February 17, 2026, initially at 50% capacity, with plans for growth. We are looking for dedicated RNs with a passion for patient care and a strong background in PCU nursing.

Unit Information:

  • 33 Beds
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted with 5+ years of PCU experience

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Adults
  • Medical-based PCU: CHF, COPD, established vents and trachs, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, CIWA, patients receiving dialysis, diabetic patients with insulin drips, etc.

Patient Ratios:

  • 1:4

Required License and Certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Skills Required:

  • General nursing skills: IV starts, wound care/dressing changes, central lines, NG tube insertion, tube feeds, PCA pumps, cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Comfortable performing lab draws (no phlebotomy)
  • Experience with drips: titrating Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, insulin (with Endotool)
  • EPIC experience required

Support within the Department:

  • 3 CNAs, 1 performing HUC duties
  • Charge nurse available
  • RT and Hospitalist 24/7, Intensivist available (not at night)
  • Anesthesia available 24/7 for intubations

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC (required)
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell

Floating:

  • Travelers will be the first to float within scope of practice
  • 1:4 ratio if floating to MedSurg
  • Required to float per Region needs

Orientation:

  • NEO
  • 1-2 shifts on the unit, depending on comfort level

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
  • Holiday Expectations: 75% of holidays in contract
  • Self-scheduling with manager approval
