We are seeking a dedicated and experienced RN - MedSurg/Tele to join our team at a leading acute-care hospital in Macon, GA. This contract position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, providing high-quality care to patients.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 30
  • Census: 30
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years Med/Tele RN experience
  • First-time travelers accepted: Yes

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Post/Pre cardiac patients and step-down ICU patients
  • Diagnosis includes CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, SEPSIS, and similar conditions

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:4-6
  • CNA: 2-3 per shift

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) required (EKG Rhythm exam as part of onboarding)
  • ACLS - preferred but not required
  • National certification - Medical-surgical nursing certification preferred but not required

Skills Required:

  • Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander experience, insulin drips, heparin drips
  • Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for Level 1 Trauma Hospital
  • IV insertion and care, central line management
  • Wound care and post-op monitoring
  • Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
  • Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
  • Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management

Support within the Department:

  • CNA duties include assisting with VS, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting with turning patients, hourly rounding, and transporting patients as needed
  • Unit secretary available from 7a-11p; then house-wide call secretary from 11p-7a
  • Charge nurse on each unit
  • Resource Nurse available
  • RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist available 24/7
  • Central Telemetry Unit for telemetry monitoring

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Pyxis
  • Monitors: Phillips
  • Unit specific equipment: VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, PCA pain management

Orientation: 1-day orientation with educational modules, followed by 2 days departmental.

Scheduling: Weekend rotation includes 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 (on a 6-week schedule). No call required. Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday. RTO requests require manager approval.
