Unit Information:

  • Beds: 36
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years Med/Tele RN experience (Resource Team)
  • First-time travelers: Not preferred but will consider (Resource Team)

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Complex GI Surgeries including Partial and Total Colectomy, Bowel Resections, Anastomosis, Whipple, Distal Pancreatectomy/Splenectomy, Liver Resection
  • Trauma Overflow

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:4-6 (surge staffing could increase ratios up to 1:7-8)
  • CNA: 1:9-12

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)

Skills Required:

  • Experience with complex patient care
  • General Med/Tele skillset: basic cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
  • Medication gtt management including Heparin, blood products, IVF, Cardiac drips

Support within the Department:

  • CNA – ratios vary
  • Receptionist/HUC
  • Charge nurse, 24/7 – may or may not have patients
  • Phlebotomy – peripheral blood draws only
  • IV/VAT Team
  • Resource Nurse – as available
  • RT, 24/7
  • Hospitalist, 24/7
  • Intensivist, 24/7
  • No telemetry monitoring tech; nurses read monitors and respond

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips

Floating:

If required, floating will occur within region and scope of practice. Travelers may be required to float to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice:

  • Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH (peds only))
  • Region 2 - Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, Central Division (CMC Main + CMC Mercy + Levine Children’s Hospital)
  • Region 3 - Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH)

If floating mid-shift, the traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock).

Orientation:

  • NEO
  • 2 days departmental

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: every other
  • No call for travelers
  • Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
  • RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
