Join a leading acute-care hospital as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This is a 26-week contract position with the potential for a 48-hour/week guarantee. We are seeking experienced RNs who thrive in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.

About the Facility: This facility is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and a Teaching Hospital with 247 licensed beds. It is recognized as a Chest Pain Center and Certified Stroke Center.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 24; average patient census of 21-23
  • Required Experience: 2 years of strong high acuity Pediatric ICU experience
  • Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Respiratory, Trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma), DKA, Seizures, Neurosurgical, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, Orthopedic, Surgical, Transplants (Kidney and whole/partial Liver), complex Medical, Blood Disorders
  • Patient Ratios: RN ratios vary on acuity: 2:1, 1:1, 1:2

Required Licensure & Certifications:

  • RN: BLS, PALS

Skills Required:

  • EPIC experience
  • Experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temp monitoring device)
  • Belmont Rapid Infuser, management of critical care vasoactive drip titration, management of invasive lines - ART lines/CVP
  • Aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes
  • Ventilator and trach management, HOFV management
  • Oral/nasal suctioning, g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation and analgesic drip management
  • Foley insertion and management, Alaris & Medfusion pump management
  • Bedside procedures with providers, discharge skills, CRRT experience
  • Ability/Competency to float to Pediatric CVICU

Support within the Department:

  • 1 Health Care Tech per day to support unit secretary duties and nursing support needs
  • Unit Secretary every shift
  • Charge nurse available 24/7
  • Phlebotomy, IV/VAT Team, RT, and Intensivist available 24/7
  • Residents and APPs in-house

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips
  • Equipment: Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Artic Sun, Camino, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat, and Accuryn

Orientation: 2 days departmental orientation

Scheduling: No call for travelers; if the PICU cannot utilize them, they may be floated to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units within the facility. RTO requires manager approval, with a schedule cycle every 6 weeks.
