Join a leading acute-care hospital as a dedicated RN in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Charlotte, NC. This contract position offers an excellent opportunity for experienced RNs to work in a high-acuity environment, providing critical care to pediatric patients.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 24; average patient census of 21-23
  • Required Experience: 2 years of strong high acuity Pediatric ICU experience
  • First-time travelers are welcome

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Respiratory issues
  • Trauma (including penetrating and non-accidental trauma)
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Seizures
  • Neurosurgical cases
  • Acute/Chronic Renal Failure
  • Orthopedic and Surgical cases
  • Transplants (Kidney and whole/partial Liver)
  • Complex Medical conditions
  • Blood Disorders

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: Varies on acuity: 2:1, 1:1, 1:2

Required Licensure & Certifications:

  • RN License
  • BLS and PALS certifications

Skills Required:

  • EPIC experience
  • Experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temp monitoring), Belmont Rapid Infuser
  • Management of critical care vasoactive drip titration and invasive lines (ART lines/CVP)
  • Aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes
  • Ventilator and trach management
  • Feeding tube management and chest tube management
  • Experience with CRRT
  • Ability to float to Pediatric CVICU

Support within the Department:

  • CNA and Health Care tech support daily
  • Unit Secretary available every shift
  • 24/7 Charge nurse, Phlebotomy, IV/VAT Team, and Intensivist
  • In-house Residents and APP support

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pumps: Alaris and Medfusion
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips
  • Additional equipment: Belmont Rapid Infuser, Accuvein, PIV Ultrasound, Artic Sun, Camino, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat, and Accuryn

Orientation: 2 days departmental orientation

Scheduling: Weekend rotation required; must work 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Mondays every 6-week schedule. No call for travelers, but may float to PCVICU, Peds Progressive, NICU, or general Peds units. Holiday expectations include working 75% of holidays.
