Join a leading acute-care hospital in Montgomery, AL, as a Med/Surg Registered Nurse. This is a fantastic opportunity for both seasoned professionals and first-time travelers. We are seeking dedicated RNs with a minimum of 18 months of experience in Med/Surg and/or ICU, along with EPIC or Cerner experience. If your experience is strictly in ICU, Cerner is required. Please note that staff must be away for 6 months before returning as a traveler.
As a Med/Surg RN, you will be assigned a home unit on your first day of orientation. The facility has a patient ratio of 1:4-6, with an expectation of high-quality care, especially with the lower patient load. Below are details about the units you may work in:
- 6 North Trauma Surgical: 23 beds, focusing on general and vascular surgeries. Skills required include trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, and medication administration/documentation.
- 5 South Neuroscience: 33 beds, dealing with CVA, TBI, seizures, and more. Skills required include IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, and wound care.
- 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: 39 beds, high acuity and fast-paced MedSurg. Skills required include trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, and chemo administration (if certified).
- 3 South Orthopedics: 20 beds, focusing on orthopedic and spine surgeries. Skills required include PCA pumps, wound care, dressing changes, foleys, and drains.
- 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: 23 beds, dealing with urology, ENT, ortho, and MedSurg. Skills required include trach, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, and CVL dressing changes.
Required certifications include BLS and NIHSS. Support on the unit includes CNAs (ratio 1:10-12), a receptionist/HUC, charge nurses, and an IV/VAT team. Telemetry monitoring is managed by telemetry techs, with RNs required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours.
Technology and equipment used in the facility include Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, and Spacelabs monitors. Orientation for travelers new to the facility includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit.
Scheduling includes a weekend rotation of every other or 4 weekend days per month, with holiday expectations of one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. Shift times are from 7a-7p and 7p-7a, on a 4-week cycle with no self-scheduling.
Scrub color is flexible, and parking is available in the parking deck on levels 2 through 4 at no cost.
