Join our team as a Registered Nurse in the Med/Surg unit at a leading acute-care hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. This position is ideal for dedicated nursing professionals seeking a contract role in a dynamic healthcare environment.
**Facility Overview:**
- 492 Beds
- Level II Trauma Center
- Level III NICU
- Primary Stroke Center
**Position Requirements:**
- Minimum of 18 months experience in MedSurg and/or ICU with EPIC or Cerner experience.
- First-time travelers are welcome; staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler.
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4, with expectations for RNs to assist with patient care tasks.
**Unit Details:**
- 6 North Trauma Surgical: 23 Beds - General Surgery and Vascular surgeries. Skills required: Trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, IV skills.
- 5 South Neuroscience: 33 Beds - CVA, TBI, Seizure, Spinal Fusion. Skills required: IV start, blood draws from central lines, trach care.
- 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: 39 Beds - All patient types except stroke and MI. Skills required: Trach care, chest tubes, IV starts, chemo administration (if certified).
- 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: 18 Beds - General MedSurg. Skills required: Assessment, prioritization, communication skills.
- 3 South Orthopedics: 20 Beds - Joint replacements, fractures. Skills required: PCA pumps, wound care.
- 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: 23 Beds - Urology, ENT, ortho. Skills required: Trach care, wound care, IV starts.
**Required Certifications:**
- BLS
- NIHSS
**Support on the Unit:**
- CNA Ratio: 1:10-12
- Charge nurse available
- Telemetry monitoring techs assist RNs in reading strips.
**Technology/Equipment:**
- EMR: Cerner (preferred)
- IV pumps: Plum 360
- Medication dispensing: Omnicell
**Orientation:**
- 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit for new travelers.
**Scheduling:**
- Weekend rotation: Every other or 4 weekend days per month.
- Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy.
