Join our team as a Registered Nurse in Med/Surg at a leading acute-care hospital in Montgomery, AL. This contract position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment while providing high-quality patient care.

**Facility Overview:**

  • 492 Beds
  • Level I Trauma Center
  • Level III NICU
  • Primary Stroke Center

**Position Details:**

We welcome first-time travelers and require a minimum of 18 months of experience in Med/Surg and/or ICU, with EPIC or Cerner experience preferred. Please note that staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler. You will be assigned a home unit on your first day of orientation.

**Patient Ratios:**

Typical ratios are 1:4-6, with an expectation of high-quality care. With a lower patient load, RNs are expected to assist with turning patients, baths, ADLs, etc.

**Unit Details:**

  • 6 North Trauma Surgical: 23 Beds, General Surgery and Vascular surgeries. Skills required include trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation.
  • 5 South Neuroscience: 33 Beds, CVA, TBI, Seizure, AMS, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy, Degenerative Diseases. Skills required include IV start, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, wound care.
  • 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: 39 Beds, high acuity and fast-paced MedSurg. Skills required include trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts; chemo administration preferred.
  • 3 South Orthopedics: 20 Beds, orthopedic and spine surgeries. Skills required include PCA pumps, wound care, dressing changes, foley, drains.
  • 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: 23 Beds, urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg. Skills required include trach, wound care, IV starts, CVL dressing changes.

**Required Certifications:**

  • BLS
  • NIHSS

**Support on the Unit:**

  • CNA Ratio: 1:10-12
  • Charge nurse available, rarely takes assignment
  • Phlebotomy and IV/VAT Team support available
  • Telemetry monitoring techs available; RNs required to interpret telemetry strips every 4 hours

**Technology/Equipment:**

  • EMR: Cerner (EPIC experience considered)
  • IV pumps: Plum 360
  • Medication dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Spacelabs

**Orientation:**

Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will have 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit. Rehires will have orientation based on their last date of employment.

**Scheduling:**

  • Weekend rotation: Every other or 4 weekend days per month
  • No on-call requirements
  • Holiday expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
  • Approval of time off: Up to 7 days off can be approved, excluding blackout dates
  • Shift times: 7a-7p, 7p-7a
  • Schedule cycle: 4-week cycle period; no self-scheduling
