Join our team as a Registered Nurse in the Med/Surg unit at a leading acute-care hospital in Montgomery, AL. This contract position offers an exciting opportunity for first-time travelers with at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience. You will be assigned to a home unit on the first day of orientation, ensuring a smooth transition into your role.

Facility Overview: This facility is a Level II Trauma Center with 492 beds, providing comprehensive care across various specialties, including a Level III NICU and a Primary Stroke Center.

Unit Details: You will work in one of the following units, each with specific patient types and required skills:

• 6 North Trauma Surgical: 23 beds; patient types include general surgery and vascular surgeries; ratios of 1:5-6; skills required include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, and medication administration.
• 5 South Neuroscience: 33 beds; patient types include CVA, TBI, seizure, and post-trauma; ratios of 1:5-6; skills required include IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, and wound care.
• 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: 39 beds; patient types include palliative care and MS/Oncology patients; ratios of 1:6; skills required include trach care, chemo administration (if certified), and tele monitoring.
• 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: 18 beds; patient types include COPD, CHF, and diabetes; ratios of 1:5-6; skills required include assessment, prioritization, and various care techniques.
• 3 South Orthopedics: 20 beds; patient types include joint replacements and fractures; ratios of 1:5-6; skills required include PCA pumps and wound care.
• 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: 23 beds; patient types include urology and ENT; ratios of 1:5-6; skills required include trach care and wound vacs.

Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS.

Support on the Unit: You will have support from CNAs, a charge nurse, and a telemetry monitoring tech. RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips every four hours.

Technology/Equipment: Familiarity with EMR systems (Cerner preferred), IV pumps (Plum 360), and medication dispensing systems (Omnicell) is beneficial.

Orientation: New travelers will have 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit to acclimate to the facility.

Scheduling: Expect a weekend rotation of every other weekend or four weekend days per month. You may be scheduled for one major and one minor holiday per policy, but this is not guaranteed.

Additional Notes: Scrub color is flexible, and parking is available in the designated parking deck.
