Join a leading acute-care hospital in Montgomery, AL, as a Registered Nurse in the Med/Surg unit. This contract position offers a unique opportunity for both seasoned and first-time travelers, with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care.
Facility Overview: This facility is a Level I Trauma Center equipped with 492 beds, featuring a Level III NICU and recognized as a Primary Stroke Center.
Position Details:
- Minimum of 18 months experience in Med/Surg and/or ICU with EPIC or Cerner experience required.
- Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler.
- Assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation.
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-6, typically 1:4, ensuring a high standard of care.
Unit Information:
- 6 North Trauma Surgical: 23 beds, focusing on General Surgery and Vascular surgeries. Skills required include trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, and medication administration/documentation.
- 5 South Neuroscience: 33 beds, treating CVA, TBI, Seizure, and more. Skills include IV start, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, and wound care.
- 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: 39 beds, high acuity, and fast-paced environment. Chemo experience preferred but not required. Skills include trach care, chest tubes, and IV starts.
- 3 South Orthopedics: 20 beds, focusing on orthopedic and spine patients. Skills required include PCA pumps, wound care, and dressing changes.
- 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: 23 beds, treating urology, ENT, and ortho patients. Skills include trach care, wound care, and IV starts.
Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS
Support on the Unit:
- CNA Ratio: 1:10-12
- Receptionist/HUC: Yes
- Charge Nurse: Yes, rarely takes assignment
- Phlebotomy: Yes
- IV/VAT Team: Yes
- Telemetry monitoring tech: RNs required to interpret telemetry strips every 4 hours.
Technology/Equipment: EMR: Cerner (EPIC experience considered), IV pumps: Plum 360, Medication dispensing: Omnicell, Monitors: Spacelabs.
Orientation: New travelers will have 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit. Rehires will have orientation based on their last date worked.
Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: Every other or 4 weekend days per month
- Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
- Shift times: 7a-7p, 7p-7a
- Schedule cycle: 4-week cycle period; no self-scheduling.
